Diaper Creams & Cloth Diapers

Good News! If you are regularly changing wet cloth diapers, and washing your diapers thoroughly and with the right detergent, your cloth diapering baby is less likely to experience a cloth diaper diaper rash compared to those that wear disposable diapers. Sometimes rashes happen and we want to help you find the best diaper cream for cloth diapers.

You can avoid diaper rash by avoiding the following cloth diapering “no-nos”.

  • No dryer sheets: they will leave residue.
  • No conventional stain removers: they will also leave residue.
  • No diaper creams that aren’t cloth safe: These are made to create a barrier on your baby’s bottom, and, guess what? They will also leave a barrier on your diapers, which will inhibit their absorption. Some common diaper cream ingredients that can cause staining, repelling, or odors and should be avoided are as follows: petroleum/petroleum jelly, paraffin, cod liver oil and calamine.
  • See our top 10 diaper rash creams below for cloth diapers, including what we think are the best natural diaper rash cream options!

Every baby develops a rash at some point, and you may experience some diaper cream build up on your cloth diapers.  Cloth diaper safe creams should wash out without any problems. But if you need a little extra help to remove build up, try this!

TIP! Use a natural, plant-based and fragrance free dishwashing detergent to help remove stubborn diaper cream build-up. The grease fighting ingredients work wonders. Apply a spot treatment and a little elbow grease and your diapers are good as new! After treatment, wash regularly in the washing machine with your favourite cloth diaper detergent.
