Nora's Nursery Post Secondary Scholarship Program

My name is Blaine and I am a new father! My wife and I recently had our first child after being together for almost 22 years! I am a founding member of the OWL Foundation, a non-profit that focuses on at risk youth and incarcerated youth. Our goal is to help prevent children and young adults from walking the paths that lead to their incarceration. As I have been involved in this, I decided, at 36 years old, that I wanted to go back to school. My end goal is to go to law school and use this to assist many of the under-priviledged youth that may find themselves facing these situations. For an extended part of my youth, I lived in the same situations that many of these children have grown up in and I feel that it is my duty to give back where I can. I am the first generation of my family to attend college so this is a huge accomplishment for me. I am greatly appreciative to have been selected as the beneficiary of this scholarship!

My name is Kylie, and I am a proud single mother to my 9-year-old daughter, living in British Columbia, Canada. I am currently completing my first year of the Licensed Practical Nursing program at Vancouver Island University, with a long-term goal of becoming an addictions nurse. Having faced many challenges in life, including overcoming addiction and returning to school after dropping out in Grade 7, this journey has been one of resilience and growth. I returned to my education at the age of 32, graduating with honors, and I am now on track to make the Dean’s List in my nursing program. Balancing motherhood and academics is not always easy, but I want my daughter to see that no matter where life takes you, it is never too late to rewrite your story. I am deeply honored to be a recipient of the Nora’s Nursery Scholarship, and I hope my journey can inspire others to pursue their dreams, even when the path is difficult.

My name is Tannis and I am a proud mother of five from Selkirk Manitoba, Canada. I am returning to University for my Social Science Degree as I strive to advocate and be of service to those who struggle with Mental Health and Addictions. I hope to be a role model for my children and remind them that they have endless possibilities. I am honored to receive the Nora's Nursery Scholarship for January 2024 and I wish to encourage all students to wholeheartedly believe in their abilities to create change in our challenging world.

Hi I'm Terri from Laval, QC, Canada, a single mom of a young adult son Charles (24) who is autistic, and 2 teenage daughters Emily & Sara (19 &16). I am a fulltime mature honour student at Concordia University in Public Policy/Public Affairs, hoping to one day make a difference as a policy advisor for the Canadian government. Having had to put aside my academic goals to raise my children, I returned to school at the age of 40. Struggling to meet all of life's demands while going to school, I am happy that my children observed my late night homework marathons, frustration, tears, and triumph of straight A's. They witnessed the perseverance and effort required to achieve a goal, and I hope it showed them that it's never too late to turn your circumstances around when life throws you a curveball. Being the first in my family to graduate with a university degree next spring, I want Charles, Emily, & Sara to know that they are my greatest strength and inspiration. I will continue to strive to reach my academic summit and pursue my master's degree in public administration next September. Thank you to Nora's Nursery for the honour of receiving this scholarship for Fall 2024.

My name is Linden from Chattanooga, TN, USA, and I'm a first-time mom to my son, pursuing my Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy while also finishing my pre-licensure clinical hours. I hope to be an example to my son, that he may learn to be compassionate toward peoples' life stories and to accomplish all in which he sets his mind. I am beyond thrilled to receive Nora's Nursery's scholarship for January 2024 and wish the best to all future applicants in their journey!

I am a single mother to my beautiful daughter, going back to school full time to get my Masters in Counselling Psychology with hopes to help others with their mental health, and to be a source of inspiration for my daughter.
